WorldSBK could see huge 2019 shake-up, according to Motorcycle News

We’re only five Rounds into the 2018 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season, but that hasn’t stopped rumours from swirling around the paddock over who will ride where in 2019. According to Motorcycle News’ May 16th print edition, one of the most shocking moves perhaps in WorldSBK history could be brewing.

MCN reports that Ducati are interested in signing three-time World Champion and current leader Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), a move that would coincide with the arrival of the Italian team’s brand new V4, successor to the Panigale R.

Paolo Ciabatti, Ducati Corse Sporting Director, has admitted there have been conversations before, but has also attempted to play down the rumours: “We have had a few conversations with him and his management in the past. At the moment I think he is very happy with Kawasaki. He also has a very interesting salary there!”.

Another interesting rumour published by Motorcycle News would see Rea’s teammate, Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) also leaving KRT. Joining the Japanese manufacturer in 2010, the Yorkshire rider might be interested in a move to Pata Yamaha, with Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) making a move in the opposite direction.
